They may kill a few persons, usually security men just to show their seriousness and then go for the money, but they don't kill as many as we have seen in this Offa case.

The usual armed robbers that attack banks do not go on a killing spree. They may kill a few persons, usually security men just to show their seriousness and then go for the money, but they don't kill as many as we have seen in this Offa case.

The manner in which these particular gang operated, killing police men and women, including harmless passersby, smacks of terrorism. It looks more like a terrorist attack covered with robbery. As at this morning, the number of deaths has reached 31 and some of the wounded are still in hospitals receiving treatment. It goes to show that this is the most brutal of all armed robbery attacks in the history of Nigeria.
Are these really armed robbers or are they Fulani herdsmen or Boko Haram terrorists? Why did they kill so many people?

As we think on this, there are certain conclusions one can draw from this incident:

1. There is hunger in the land!

2. Many people are angry and frustrated, not just these armed robbers.

3. A lot of evil men are into politics. Most of these armed robbers don't work for themselves. They work for top politicians who finance them and give them arms. Their intention might be to create a state of insecurity and thereby portray the sitting government as weak and incompetent; something they could use as a campaign point!

4. No one is safe, including you and I.

5. Don't steal so much and build fortresses thinking that you are safe. You are not. Share with people. Help the needy. A lot of very dangerous, I say very dangerous weapons are in the wrong hands. Some people are looking for an opportunity to get these weapons. And only God knows what they can do with it.
You may be their first target. Don't eat alone.

6. Government must urgently address this question of insecurity. And they must realize that security is not all about guns and bullets. Its not all about arms.

As we are budgeting $1 billion to buy arms, we must also address the question of unemployment and other social issues. Those whose lands and farms have been taken by force must either be compensated or have those lands returned. Cases of injustice must be addressed and government must negotiate with all aggrieved persons including groups. Most importantly, we must set aside some billions as well for social security. Its not all about arms!
