While several people will see the abduction of the mace by a gang of hoodlums as an act of thuggery and rascality,

April 18, 2018 is a day that will live in notoriety in the history of our nascent democracy.

I condemn in the strongest voice the shameful incidence that happened at the senate chambers.

While several people will see the abduction of the mace by a gang of hoodlums as an act of thuggery and rascality, I define and condemn it as an attack on our democracy, our freedom, and ultimately our safety.

I am outraged and appalled that the highest chamber of our legislature and by extension, our national sovereignty was invaded by unauthorized persons, in the presence of hundreds of armed security personnel without any intervention.

This is no accident but a strategically thought out and executed operation. This shows the quality and desperation that some persons are bringing into our political space.

I commend the senate leadership in not allowing this treasonable action by a gang of hoodlums to truncate their constitutional activity for the day.

I also call on our security and law enforcement authorities to rise above partisanship and discharge their patriotic obligations by ensuring that everyone that is involved in this act of ignominy that has made our nation the butt of jokes in the international community, are brought to book. More especially Senator Omo Agege should be arrested if actually the Senate suspended him for ninety (90) days and he showed up the same time the Mace was stolen, as I read about the arrested culprits are mostly from his state.
